Commission Work

Are you looking for a unique piece of textile art e.g. Seascape, shorelines, mountain landscape, family home or bereavement art piece that will capture the true rugged essence of the landscape/flora & fauna that is dear to your heart?
OR
Are you looking for a larger installation that requires a site visit, light & colour analysis, measuring & mapping out of area along with a detailed design process?
HOW DOES THE COMMISSION PROCESS START?
Firstly, choose a frame, colour & size. My small commission piece 23x23cm fully framed starts at €125.PHOTOGRAPHS
I like to get a good selection of photographs from the client of what they are trying to capture in the textile art piece. This will give me a true representation of the surroundings.MINDMAP
I draw up a mindmap with the name of the piece as the centre point then stemming from this all important features to be added to the piece.SKETCHES
I work from a series of sketches mostly coloured in thumbnails.COLOURATION PROCESS
The most important part and most time consuming is the colouration process. Putting together all the coloured fibres, wool, woven textures & liaising with client at all stages to make sure I’m on the right track.GETTING STARTED
I always find until I start working on the textile art piece, it is only then, I get a true sense for what is working & what is not.FRAMING
From here I secure the art piece within the frame, name it & sign it.Testimonial
I went to Laura with a few photos and a bit of an idea for a custom frame as a gift for my mother, to remember a place that is special to her. Laura really understood what I was looking for and I was so delighted with the finished piece, she captured the essence and beauty of the place and it’s instantly recognisable to us all, it has pride of place in my mother’s house. If you are looking for a unique and beautiful piece of Art I can’t recommend Laura enough.

We spotted Laura’s work at a Christmas fair and fell in love with it! I kept her card and contacted her a while later to buy two gorgeous sunset prints. However we were really take by the original pieces so decided to commission a piece from Laura to capture the view from our holiday home in Mayo as a surprise gift for my husband. The whole process from first discussing it to finally getting the piece was so enjoyable. I sent Laura a bunch of photos and a video of the view and she started piecing together some fabrics. From there the piece gradually took shape and I was kept in the loop the whole time, tweaking this and that as we went till it really captured the view we love. My 4 yr old son even commented at one point that he loved it, and definitely recognised the view, but what about the dog from next door? No probs for Laura, in went Molly the dog too! Laura was so attentive and accommodating the whole time and it was such a treat to work with her. The finished piece is simply stunning and having had such involvement in creating it makes it even more special. I can’t recommend her work highly enough. Thanks Laura!
